I am the Quality Assurance/Staff Development Nurse at The Springs Nursing Center in beautiful Hot Springs Va. I worked here as a floor nurse before taking this position for the first time several years ago. I decided to work closer to home and went to work in WV only to return after being gone for 2 months. I graduated from The Greenbrier School of Practical Nursing in Lewisburg WV in August of 2004 and have attended Greenbrier Co College. I worked as a CNA before going to nursing school and since becoming a nurse I have worked Med Surg, in a rural clinic and in Mental Health. I love long term care however and I keep coming back to it no matter what else I try. I have found The Springs Nursing Center to be my home away from home because everyone here is one big happy family. In November of 2007 we brought my step dad here to live and it has been one of the best decisions we have made. We had worried about how he would adjust but he tells us he is very happy here. I am the proud mother of two beautiful young ladies. My youngest Sabrina Vance is a student at Greenbrier East high school in Lewisburg WV were she is preparing for college. She plans to be a physical therapist. And Emily Simmons is in Cosmetology school and lives in Princeton WV with her wonderful husband Tim Simmons who is serving our country in The National Guards. He will be going over seas at the first of the year. I love spending time with my family and I like to listen to a wide variety of music both old and new. I also like camping and plan to go deer hunting for the first time this year.
Dorothy has worked for Kissito Healthcare for 14 years. She began her career in long term care at the Brian Center in Fincastle, VA, working in the housekeeping and laundry departments. She was then promoted to the Director of Environmental Services in 1998. In 2003, Dorothy accepted the position at The Springs Nursing Center as the Director of Culinary Services. She takes great pride in her job and makes every effort to please her staff and the residents. Dorothy enjoys being outdoors, camping, volunteering and being with her family. She has been remarried for 14 years. She has 2 children and 3 grandchildren, who she dearly loves.
As Community Life Director, I enjoy working with all our residents to keep their individual needs met. I enjoy my job at the Springs Nursing Center, especially working with the Alzheimer's residents. This is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. Each day I try to fill with activities and ideas to meet the needs of each resident. We have fun with games, crafts, music, cooking, and outings. We work hard to make birthdays and holidays a special memory for them and their families.
I am new to the long term setting. I worked in acute care for five years before deciding I needed a change. At the Springs, I have found a group of individuals who work very well together and I hope that I can be an asset to this company. Working in management is new to me also, but I am willing to learn to provide the best service to this facility. I have two children, ages 20 and 15. Outside of work, I like to spend time with my fiancée, Jeff, whom I will marry in July and gain three stepchildren. I love to watch football. Go Steelers! I also like to watch high school football and baseball. Go Covington Cougars and James Monroe Mavs!!! I like to go dancing and like to listen to all types of music.
My name is April Feury. I am currently the Medical Records Manager at the world famous Springs in Hot Springs Va. I have been employed here for almost a year now and really enjoy my job. Being a native from Alleghany County, I graduated from Alleghany High School in 1994 and later attended Cosmetology school. In 2006 I graduated from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College with a Medical Coding Certificate. I have been married for 8 years and have a wonderful 6 year old son,Trey and a stepson Cody. In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching reality t.v shows and spending time with my family.
My name is Larry Irvine and I was born and raised in Clifton Forge, Virginia and have lived in the State of Virginia my entire life. I have been in the Maintenance field for over 18 years and have worked in maintenance for a hotel chain, apartment complex and in the health care industry. At The Springs I am focused on ensuring that the facility and grounds are clean at all times, performing all maintenance and repairs when needed, keeping all equipment in working order and managing the Housekeeping and Laundry departments. I like working at The Springs because of the scenic views from the facility, the staff takes pride in providing excellent care for the residents and the residents really appreciate what we do for them.
I am the Central Supply Clerk at the Springs. I make sure the employees and residents have all supplies that are needed. I also do transports and I am a registered CNA. I have been employed here since September 2006. I feel like this job has changed my life tremendously. I have learned how to care for other people in a different way. The staffing here are very helpful and do a great job caring for our residents. In my spare time I enjoy taking care of my family and helping others.
As the Regional Director of Marketing and Business Development my responsibilities include working with the community, physicians, and hospitals to keep everyone informed of what we have to offer at each facility. I visit our patients and potential patients in the hospitals and work with the hospital social worker to make sure we can meet the needs of each one and to ensure a safe transition to the facility. I have been working in Healthcare since 2004 and was first concerned about how I would like working with the elderly population; however; I quickly learned how rewarding it is to work with a population who have been forgotten by many. I have found my passion in this field. Outside of work, I like to read, garden, travel, snow ski, and spend time with my husband Jason and our cat Picaboo. Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
I graduated from the Regional IV School of Practical Nursing in 1993. After practicing as an L.P.N. for 10 years I decided it was time (and you are never to old) to further my education and returned to school and graduated from Mountain State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2007. I have worked in several different area’s in nursing, and I have 10 years experience in long term care, which I have always enjoyed the most. I have learned over the years that every resident is unique and I have learned something from every one of them that I will always carry with me. I am glad to have the opportunity to learn and grow here and feel we have a strong family and a good team here. My husbands name is Eddie (he enjoys drag racing and mudd racing) and we have been married for 32 years. We have 2 children. Our daughter Amy works in the mental health field and is expecting her first child (our first grandchild). My son Charlie is an avid outdoorsman, he fishes bass tournaments and a variety of different outdoor sports. As a family we enjoy watching Eddie race, fishing, music and just getting together.
I have taken care of nursing home patients and served as medical director at multiple facilities for over 25 years. Residents in long term care have special needs and deserve special care. Very few physicians are willing to see residents in the long term care community, and medical care is often provided remotely by fax or phone. The physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants of my independent practice, Long Term Care Medical Associates, are committed to taking care of patients when and where it is needed – at the facility where they live. We are experienced in primary care as well as long term care, providing medical care to geriatric and rehabilitation patients in multiple facilities. We are committed to providing the most appropriate, high quality compassionate medical care for every patient. At the same time we are committed to working with each facility to create the appropriate environment for residents and staff. I graduated from the University of Maryland, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and the Family Practice Residency Program at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. I am a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine, and I am certified by the American Medical Directors Association as a Medical Director for Long Term Care. I appreciate working with nursing and administrative staffs at homes like The Brian Center that are sincerely trying to improve the quality of care and the quality of living for all the patients and residents. My wife Betty and I have four grown children. When not working, we enjoy boating and quiet time at nearby Smith Mountain Lake.
I have worked at The Springs Nursing Center since May 2001. As Director of Social Services, it is my pleasure to assist both residents and their families beginning with the admissions process all the way to appropriate discharge planning. I try to make the transition into our facility from home a smooth one. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know new residents and building on relationships with current residents. Each resident’s story is different, making each one unique. The residents teach me so much on a daily basis. I love to listen to them and learn from them. The Springs also has a wonderful team of staff members who truly care about the residents. We work together to make this a wonderful home for our residents. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing the guitar and singing. Once a month, our gospel group visits The Springs and provides entertainment.
I graduated from DSLCC in 1991 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. I started working at The Springs in May 2006 as a staff nurse. I have worked in many different areas of nursing including Long Term Care, ICU, Med/Surg, OB, ER/Trauma, Psych, and Pediatrics. I have learned so much and am grateful to have had the opportunity to gain experience in each of these areas, however, in the long run, I returned to Long Term Care. I really like the idea of getting to know the residents and having that connection that you just don't get working in acute care. I started working in the position of Director of Nursing in September 2006 and have found it very rewarding. Everyday is a challenge and an opportunity for learning. I enjoy coming to work knowing that I make a difference in someone's life even with a smile. I also realize that having that smile returned from the resident makes my day too. My husband's name is Joey Sparks and he is also an RN. Together we have 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Our entire family resides in the Covington area, though our youngest daughter, Whitney will be leaving for college in the fall. As a family, we enjoy boating, bowling, and of course watching Whitney play softball. On a personal note, I love to listen to music of all kinds (depends on my mood), painting, and reading.
My name is Gary Watson and I am the Chief Administrative Officer for The Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia. I received a Bachelors of Business Administration from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia, a Certificate in Long Term Care Administration from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia and have been a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator since 2006. It is great to be part of a team that places resident care and their well being as our top priority and we do this at The Springs by using the Namaste Care Program in our Alzheimer's Unit, staffing Speech, Occupational and Physical Therapists in our Rehabilitation Unit, and by offering Medicare residents our private room when recovering from a hospital stay. If you have any questions or would like more information please give me a call at 540-839-2299.
As Director of Financial Services, my role is to serve our residents and their families by helping to explain and manage billing to Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance carriers. These systems are highly regulated which often are difficult to understand. At The Springs, we are your partner in health care and are always ready to answer questions or concerns. The Springs is an outstanding facility with an amazing staff dedicated to serving the needs of our residents. I attended West Virginia University majoring in accounting and have worked for non-profit organizations for over 19 years. Outside of work, I serve on the Jackson River Chapter of the American Red Cross Board and the Covington Planning Commission. I also am a certified Health and Safety Services Instructor Trainer for the Red Cross. I have two children in college and a wonderful, supportive husband. My job is very rewarding and it is a privilege to serve our residents.
